Reports from the market of export steel products indicate that last week, Iran’s export slab price was announced at $400 per ton, which compared to the previous week, decreased by about $20, which is a figure equivalent to 8.4%. Also, the price of export billet was announced with an increase of 9.5 dollars per ton to about 5.458 dollars, which indicates a 2.1% decrease in the price of this product compared to the previous week.
Exported slabs were priced at around $400 per ton from August 2009 to the beginning of this year, which represents a 50.3% decrease in the price of this product.
Often, the price of export billet is lower than the price of slabs, but still, due to the drop in the price of steel flat sections, the price of export billet is declared to be about 14.6% higher than the price of slabs.
According to the announcement of the World Steel Association, Iran’s steel production reached 2.9 million tons in the first month of autumn, which indicates a 3.5 percent increase in steel production compared to the same period last year.
The increase in Iran’s steel production was realized in a situation where the top ten steel producing countries had a decrease in production during these days. In addition to Iran, China and India also accounted for the highest amount of production respectively.
It should be noted that Iran’s steel production increased by 9% in the last ten months compared to the same period last year, which is estimated at 1.25 million tons. According to the same statistics, Iran was in the 10th place in the field of steel production at the same time last year, and it has maintained this position until today.
According to the statistics of the World Steel Association, in 2021, Iran produced about 28.5 million tons of steel, which was a decrease of about 1.8% compared to 2020. Accordingly, steel production in West Asian countries including Iran, Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia has increased by 6.7 percent this month and is estimated at 4 million tons. Considering that Iran’s production in Mehr month is announced to be around 2.9 million tons, it can be said that 72.5% of this amount is allocated to Iran.
China with the production of 79.8 million tons, India with the production of 10.5 million tons, and Japan with the production of 3.7 million tons of steel were among the first producing countries in these days, but at the same time, Turkey with a decrease of 17.8 percent in steel production. Compared to other countries, it has decreased more, in general, based on the same statistics, China has increased production by about 11% and India by about 2.7%.
Global statistics indicate that the amount of world steel production in October was relatively stable and was announced at 3.147 million tons, but in the first ten months of the current year, compared to the same period last year, there was a 3.9% decrease. The figure is equal to 7.1552 million tons.
Estimates indicate that the production of steel in 27 member countries of the European Union has decreased by about 17.5% and about 11.3 million tons have been produced. The energy crisis in Europe and the unbridled growth of energy have had a negative effect on the industries of European countries to the extent that some experts have seriously warned of the possibility of losing the industries of these countries and consider the industrial base of the European Union to be in danger.
The World Steel Association, which represents steel producers, national and regional steel associations and steel industry research institutes, surveyed 64 countries that produce about 98 percent of the world’s steel.
